Successful TRT Plus Parenting training in May
From the 1st to 4th May 2023 a four-day TRT Plus Parenting training was delivered online to MHPSS workers located in Syria, Turkey and Iraq. The training was delivered in collaboration with training partner United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC).
Partnering and participants organisation included those from Women Now Campaign, Mercy is limitless, HiHFAD, Sema, Maram, Al-Sham Humanitarian Foundation, Medical Relief for Syria, Syrian Association for Psychological Supporters, SAMS, Dammah, CARE, participants that attended just the Plus Parenting component were from Revival Hope, Childhood Guards, Doctors across continents, Humanitarian Initiative Haya and Independent Doctors Association.
A total of 62 participants took part in the training. Forty five during the first 3 days of TRT training and then an additional 17 during the fourth day who were existing TRT facilitators but wanted the Plus Parenting additional component to add to their activities. Participants have a wide range of experience working with children in war zones and are employees of NGOs based Syria, Turkey and Iraq.
The Training: The training was held online for Four days via zoom conference call. The training sessions were split between lecture-style sessions and practical sessions. The lecture-style sessions allowed for training on the manual, Q and A and discussions about delivery of the sessions and techniques. In the practical sessions, participants were split up into working groups (zoom rooms) and would practice techniques through role play activities of the techniques and delivery of parts of the sessions. The practical sessions allowed for further discussions and Q and A. This gave the chance for everyone to practice delivering the sessions multiple times and obtain comprehensive feedback on ways to improve their skills. It allowed the trainer to assess participants knowledge and understanding of the program.
Future Plans: Participants plans to use the TRT Plus Parenting program as part of their main MPSS response in war and conflict settings as well as a response to the Syria/Turkey earthquake in the coming months. CAW will offer supervision sessions during and after implementation cycles in the coming months.
