Children and War Foundation thanks Grieg Foundation for the support

Children and War Foundation Extends Heartfelt Thanks to Grieg Foundation for Two Years of Generous Financial Support.

The Children and War Foundation (CAW) is pleased to announce the successful completion of its two-year project, significantly supported by the Grieg Foundation. This collaboration, spanning from January 2022 to December 2023, has been instrumental in building local capacities to support children coping with psychological trauma from conflicts and natural disasters.

– We are deeply grateful to the Grieg Foundation for their support over the past two years, said Ragnhild Dybdahl Chairperson of Board of Research and implementation (BRI) at Children and War Foundation.

– Their generous funding has enabled us to train nearly 500 individuals who are now equipped to provide essential psychosocial support to children affected by war and disasters. This is a remarkable achievement that would not have been possible without their help.

The project's impact has been far-reaching, with 18 trainings conducted, including sessions in Ukraine, the Middle East, Bangladesh, and Ethiopia. These trainings have empowered local helpers with the knowledge and skills to assist traumatized children, offering techniques that have significantly reduced symptoms such as nightmares, anxiety, and sadness. One of the standout outcomes was the Teaching Recovery Techniques (TRT) project in Ethiopia, which external evaluators praised for its effectiveness and recommended for scaling up.

The Ethiopian project: 30 psychosocial workers, researchers and others in Ethiopia were trained in order to become super trainers who can again train others. Within the project period, 20 more persons were trained in TRT (by the super trainers) and provided TRT to 100 children aged 9-18. The project was positively evaluated by Deep Dive Research and Consulting to be found to be cost effective and successful, and scaling was recommended. The Grieg Foundation's support also facilitated the translation of critical training materials into multiple languages, including Bangla, Polish, and Ukrainian, broadening the reach and applicability of CAW's methodologies.

– Thanks to the Grieg Foundation, we have been able to extend our reach to areas with the greatest need, providing vital mental health resources and training to those who can make a real difference in their communities, Dybdahl added.

– Their support has not only built capacity but has also fostered hope and resilience among children and their families facing unimaginable hardships.

As the project concludes, CAW remains committed to continuing its mission, leveraging the groundwork laid during these two years to further support and expand its efforts in helping children around the world heal from trauma.
